During his career, Mr. Chamberlin has developed underwriting protocols, many of which have become insurance industry standards. He conducted the earliest studies on airborne asbestos fiber levels at abatement projects and in public buildings, research pivotal to the development of Asbestos-In-Place Insurance. Mr. Chamberlin standardized protocols for Phase I Environmental Assessments and developed a national education program to train 2,000 environmental consultants in the protocol prior to development of the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM) standard for Phase I Environmental Assessments.
Mr. Chamberlin has been responsible for underwriting Property Transfer Liability Insurance since the product’s inception in 1991. In the first year alone, his team underwrote and insured more than 150 properties under his direction. In 1993, Mr. Chamberlin’s team underwrote the nation’s first insurance policy which caps cost over-runs on the cost of an environmental remediation, called Remediation Stop Loss Insurance. Mr. Chamberlin specializes in development of environmental coverages that involve environmentally tainted properties, including uranium, petroleum, fungicides, and dioxins. Recently, Mr. Chamberlin expanded Property Transfer Liability Insurance to cover underground storage tanks, contamination from off site sources, low level residual contamination following remediation, and lender liability that may arise from financing a contaminated property.
Mr. Chamberlin graduated from the University of Missouri Rolla, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. In addition to EPA Accreditation for Asbestos Abatement Supervisor and Building Inspector/Management Planner, Mr. Chamberlin has designations of “Associate in Risk Management” and “Associate in Loss Control Management,” as awarded by the Insurance Institute of America.
